The new executive office suite
of Hatuma Lime Company has a massive base which deliberately
promotes the potential of the company's limestone rock in
architecture and landscaping.
The site is at the interface of the Takapau Plain, an ancient
sea bed, and long limestone ridges of fossil dunes.
The building is akin to a tubular shell or exoskeleton
on the beach. It opens strongly to embrace the northern
landscaped garden and rural vista, but turns its flanks
to the eastern quarry noise and dust and the hot western
sun.
