Musico warehouse

Petone 2007

The owner of Musico, a Petone-based sheet music and instrument import company, invited Aonui to convert a joinery factory into their new wholesale warehouse. Central to the brief was the need for low energy solutions to heating, cooling and ventilation.

Aonui introduced low E glass and a new deep eave on the front facade, as well as macrocarpa timber screening the common services area.

The offices are naturally ventilated by awning and hopper windows, with manual louvres on inner partitions allowing fresh air to reach the warehouse space behind. Two rows of wind driven ventilators on the roof complete the natural conditioning. Also on the roof is a Solar Genius water heater.

The warehouse was divided into two tenancies, with wide mezzanines making the most efficient use of the tall central volume.

Translucent panels in the roof remove the need for artificial lighting on most days.
