This pair of houses by Aonui in central Wellington occupy a 292m2 triangular site leftover from motorway development in the 1980s.

Each has 1 master and 2 single bedrooms and so the resulting urban residential density is equivalent to 280 person/ha or 180 persons/ha allowing for roads, retail and recreation space, an internationally comparable density for a walkable resilient city with high-quality public transport and infrastructure.

This example proves that smart intervention and infill housing can meet the anticipated 80,000 population growth for Wellington by 2030 without a complete reliance on medium- high rise apartments.
