Happy Valley Boatshed and Sleepout

The owner’s existing 1940s home is located just 200m from Wellington’s south coast, but the house doesn't have the elevation to enjoy an ocean view.  The long property offered glimpses of the Cook Strait from the rear yard, making it a strategic location for an outdoor living area. A take on a traditional barn style provided an opportunity for a sleepout connected to the main barn, with a pergola covered deck.

A gently curving raised walkway provides an organic link to the existing house skirting the lower  lawn on the axis of  site. The new buildings are clad in macrocarpa that is gradually silvering off to evoke the sun and salt bleached seaside aesthetic. The bright yellow of the doors adds energy and playfulness to the project, perfect for a young family.
