The Wright family have been willing participants in the prototype active solar experiment that has been their home since 2001. The second wing of the home is separated from living areas with a dividable lobby, and functions as the offices of Aonui Architecture.
This was the first home to have a Solarhomes Ventpac system for harvesting and storing solar heat in winter and exhausting surplus interior heat in summer. Smart management of windows means that the energy used in the building is significantly less than a heat pump would consume.
